The mountain of Montserrat, located 50 kilometers from Barcelona, is one of the most magical, spiritual and amazing places in Catalonia. It is a rocky massif with strange shapes and rounded summits that project towards the sky. Its name refers to these serrated peaks. Inside the natural park we can find the Basilica of the Virgin of Montserrat, patroness of Catalonia, and the famous Benedictine monastery of Santa Maria de Montserrat. Our visit will begin in the monastery, founded in 1025 and place where the monks still live today dedicating their lives to work, to pray and to taking care of the sanctuary, as well as to receiving the pilgrims. Then we will visit the Basilica, home to the famous XII century romanesque sculpture of “La Moreneta”, known as the Black Madonna. After that we will take the funicular of Sant Joan and climb up to 1000 meters. Once up we will make a short excursion to the natural park of Montserrat and enjoy the stunning views and spirituality of this sacred mountain from one of its viewpoints. After the walk we will go back to the Basilica to witness the singing of the Escolanía de Montserrat, one of the oldest choirs of children in Europe.
